Open Call Exhibitions
Overview
The majority of the exhibitions that Gallery X organizes are non-juried, open call exhibitions, most of which are held in the Main Gallery space and rotate every 4-6 weeks from February through December. Being non-juried means there is no screening or selection process involved, artists who submit work which they feel fits the theme for that particular show will be exhibited. And while Gallery X does offer Artist Memberships, you do not need to be a member of Gallery X to participate in any of our open call exhibitions.
Participation in open call exhibitions is handled through a Call For Art which features a prompt that is meant to guide or inspire the artist to submit artwork in a particular theme or genre. For artists who are not members of Gallery X there is a submission fee of $15 per piece exhibited, this is payable by card, cash, check, or Venmo at the time the artwork is submitted (members of Gallery X enjoy free submissions to all Gallery X organized exhibitions).
Exhibition Guidelines
- Display Readiness: All submitted submitted artwork must be ‘exhibition ready.’ This means…
- 2D works for wall display are securely framed or mounted with appropriate hanging hardware (wire, sawtooth hanger, French cleat) and ready to hang. Gallery-wrapped canvas does not need to be framed, but should include hanging hardware.
- 3D works for pedestal display or that are freestanding must be stable and able to safely be displayed on its base or on a gallery-provided pedestal.
- Irregular works such as quilts or clothing must include their own hanging/display mechanism provided by the artist, this can include hanging rods, stands, mannequins, etc. If you have a piece that you are unsure about how to display, or are wondering if it is possible to display in the manner you envision, just reach out!
- All works must be dry to the touch upon delivery, works in pastel, charcoal, or graphite should be under glass or properly sealed with fixative.
- Sales & Commission: The artist may choose to list their submitted artwork for sale, however the sale of artwork is not required during open-call exhibitions.
- Commission: When work is listed for sale Gallery X handles all transactions during the duration of the exhibition and retains a 35% commission for works sold by non-members (members of Gallery X enjoy a reduced commission rate of 25% when selling their work).
- Pricing: The selling price provided by the artist on the submission form is considered the retail price inclusive of the 35% gallery commission.
- Payment: Payments for sold work will be issued to the artist by Gallery X within 14 days of the exhibition’s closing.
- Delivery & Logistics:
- Drop-off: Artwork must be hand delivered during regular gallery hours or by appointment during the designated submission window. The shipping of artwork will be considered on a case by case basis, acceptance of shipped work is up to the sole discretion of Gallery X and the exhibition curator.

Generally the designated pickup dates are during gallery hours on the final Saturday and Sunday of the exhibition or the following Monday (by appointment). Artists who are unable to retrieve their artwork on these dates should contact Gallery X as soon as possible to schedule an alternative pickup date.
