2nd Annual Alternative Photography Exhibit

Gallery X - Douglass Gallery 169 William Street, New Bedford, MA 02740

The 2nd Annual Alternative Photography Exhibit returns to the Frederick Douglass Gallery at Gallery X. From October 1 through November 1 historical photographic methods used by the South Coast community of photographers who are exploring and celebrating diverse, process-based approaches to photography will be exhibited in this fascinating exhibition.

For this exhibit, alternative process refers to historical and experimental photographic printing methods—both in creating negatives and in printing images. From pinhole cameras to cyanotype printing, participating photographers explore alternatives to mainstream digital photography.

As technology continues to advance, many professionals, students, and hobbyists are returning to traditional, hands-on approaches to image making.

These artists have embraced processes such as cyanotype, platinum-palladium, pinhole cameras, gum bichromate, van dyke, photogravure, tintype, ambrotype, wet plate collodion, and combinations thereof—each producing one-of-a-kind works.

Enjoy this amazing exhibition during regular gallery hours (Wednesdays to Fridays 11am-4pm, Saturdays/Sundays 12-3pm). It is free for everyone to visit and enjoy the exhibitions in both of our gallery spaces during our regular gallery hours, AHA! Night programming, and opening receptions.
