Answering Our Ancestors - Opening Reception

Gallery X - Douglass Gallery 169 William Street, New Bedford, MA 02740
Organized by Gallery X

Join Gallery X and DATMA on Friday, June 13 from 6-8pm as we celebrate Pride in the SouthCoast with the opening receptions for 2 amazing new exhibitions, Answering Our Ancestors and Being Seen. Come and enjoy drinks & accoutrements, while we celebrate and honor all involved.

In the Douglass Gallery Answering Our Ancestors, curated by Kate Frazer Rego, features artwork and ephemera that honors the joy, hopes, struggles, lives, and stories of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Being Seen is a community-driven public art statement expressing unity throughout the region featuring a tapestry created by over 100 artists from Fall River to Wareham. This tapestry will be installed on the front of New Bedford City Hall and the walls of Gallery X. To provide deeper significance to the public art component and connecting our region with this important movement the exhibition will also feature a focus on the legacy of local figures such as David B. Boyce (1949-2014), who was portrayed in the important, renowned sculpture by artist George Segal, "The Gay Liberation Monument."

Gallery X would like to thank New Bedford Creative for sponsoring Answering Our Ancestors!

This event is free and open to the public.

The exhibitions will be on view through July 12.
