30th Anniversary Art Auction
Gallery X is Celebrating 30 Years of Community Art Advocacy
With A Fundraising Campaign and Auction
With the Covid-19 Pandemic in full swing and the country possibly more divided than it’s ever been, Gallery X, a member-owned and operated art center and public gallery on William Street, in New Bedford has been facing a difficult challenge during its 30th season. Launched in 1990, by approximately 25 local artists, many of them graduates of the former Swain School of Design, Gallery X has earned a solid reputation in the South Coast art community by offering public art exhibitions, comedy shows, life drawing classes and all-around positive support for regional arts and artists. As a non-profit, tax exempt organization, Gallery X relies on membership dues, gallery sales, occasional space rentals, and generous donations from local patrons to pay its bills and survive. The recent pandemic has made the usual funding challenges even harder, and that is why the gallery’s development committee in cooperation with the board of directors, has launched a 30th Anniversary Fundraising drive and Art Auction.
Bidding will continue online and in the gallery, until Saturday, October 3 at 7:00pm. Final bids will then be taken during the Facebook Live, X-ceptional Art Auction event on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 7:00 PM, where you will have one final live look at each of the works being auctioned.
Other ways of contributing include purchasing a limited edition “ART LIVES!” Gallery X t-shirt, lapel pin, or bumper sticker; some original art from the Gallery X Something Xtra gift shop; or you can make a generous tax deductible contribution here.
Special thanks to James Correia for photographing the work and to
