Liz LaValley

A scrimshander for over 30 years, Liz LaValley scribes ivory and bone in traditional and eclectic ways.
She explores the art with colorful flights of fancy by exhibiting at the Gallery X Arts Cooperative and
often demonstrating at the New Bedford Whaling Museum with traditional scenes.

Always seeking new ways to bring this ancient art to new audiences,
Liz showcases scrimshaw on necklaces and bookmarks, but also combines pieces with
beads, pins, rune stones, bookbinding and other venues.

Liz also works in watercolor, experimenting with colors and shape,
studying the effects of light on various surfaces,
in particular the contrast of stone and petals.

Recipient of the "Best Body of Work" at the 2001 Philadelphia World Con Art Show,
Liz lectures and demonstrates country-wide at historical societies, art shows,
and everywhere in between.
