is a 28 year old artist/designer from
Coventry, RI. She studied fine arts at CCRI and graphic design at
the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
By studying both fine arts and graphic design, Melanie gained a slightly
different perspective than others. She believes that graphic design
is nothing more than conceptual art. Conceptual art has been a big
inspiration to Melanie, who applies concepts to not only her designs
but also to her paintings.
However, there is more than just conceptual art that has influenced
her work. Melanie's current work is inspired by Frida Kahlo, Ludwig
Kirchner, Basquiat, and various graffiti that she has seen in the
city of Providence, RI.
Furthermore, Melanie claims that every
aspect of life is a potential inspiration for her art. Melanie describes
her work as interpretations of the world around her,
that
I can see clearly, the beautiful and the ugly. I take what I see
and feel and make something positive out of it, art."
She does not create art for the sake of
aesthetics, her work always has a concept; from ideas of sexuality
to violence to feelings of joy. Melanie's art has a purpose besides
being a beautiful image, it can make a statement.
to interpret an idea through
images."
Most importantly, she wants the viewer be have
a reaction to it...love or hatred she doesn't mind. As long as it's
not ennui, then Melanie Ducharme has succeeded.
